Apple Watch 3 to sport all-new design
This year’s edition of Apple Watch, widely expected to be called Apple Watch 3, will reportedly sport an all-new design. The news comes courtesy Apple analyst John Gruber. In a blog post, where Gruber talks about the recent Bloomberg story on Apple Watch 3 coming with an LTE chip, he also claims that it will have an entirely new design vis-avis previous models. He cited an ‘unconfirmed birdie’ for the news.
“It’s hard to overstate just how big a deal this could be. No mention in Businessweek’s report, though, of the all-new form factor that I’ve heard is coming for this year’s new watches. That tidbit came from an unconfirmed little birdie, though, so I wouldn’t bet the house on it,” wrote Gruber in his blog post.
This may mean that users may see Apple Watch in round form factor as was widely rumoured some time back.
Late last week, there was a report in Bloomberg claiming that with Apple Watch 3, the technology company may cut its watch’s reliance on iPhones. According to the report, “Apple Inc is planning to release a version of its smartwatch later this year that can connect directly to cellular networks, a move designed to reduce the device’s reliance on the iPhone.” The report quotes “people familiar with the matter”.

Presently, Apple Watch requires to be connected wirelessly to an iPhone for things like streaming music, using maps, sending messages and more. To reduce this dependance, Apple is reported to be adding LTE chips to its upcoming smartwatches. This, as per the report, will help Apple Watch 3 to perform several tasks even when an iPhone is not in range.

The report says that Apple has roped in the US-based chip giant Intel to provide LTE chips for these smartwatches. The Bloomberg report also terms it a big win for the US-based chipmaker which it says “has been trying for years to get its components into more Apple mobile devices.”

In 20126, Intel won a deal to supply cellular modems to Apple’s current flagship smartphones iPhone 7.
